TOUR ITINERARY

Discovering the second largest urban settlement in the world, which has been inhabited for over 2600 years, is no small feat. The cosmopolitan capital of the world’s largest democracy has two contrasting geographies with distinct personas. Begin with the urban sprawl of New Delhi, which was first established by the Britishers with broad tree-lined boulevards, generous public spaces and colonial-style bungalows. The heart of ‘Lutyens Delhi’ is Connaught Place, a commercial centre designed in two concentric circles, flaunting collonaded Georgian-style buildings with shopping stores, vintage cinemas, eateries and offices. Historic landmarks from the post-independence era like Rajpath, President's House, India Gate, Parliament House and the offices of the governmental machinery stand loftily, pronouncing the status of the political powerhouse.

After this, change gears to board the Metro to Old Delhi, the seat of the Mughals. Bow down to the architectural splendour of larger-than-life monuments like the Red Fort and Jama Masjid (the largest mosque in India), which are reminders of the might of the Mughal Empire in the country. Lose yourself to the chaos and charm of the ancient bazaars of Chandi Chowk on foot and cycle-rickshaws.

Enchantment never ceases at Dariba Kalan (silver market), Kinari Bazaar (wedding market) and Paranthewali Gali (Lane of Parathas – a soft bread). Stop at Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib, where Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru, was killed for refusing to convert to Islam. Hindu temples, Jain derasars and churches poke out of narrow streets lined with age-old Havelis (mansions) and speak of a multi-cultural lineage. The tour will end at the legendary Haldiram’s, where you can try some of the city’s famous chaats (spicy savories) and refreshing cold drinks. Finally, board the Metro back to Connaught Place to end a fulfilling day.
