When the British East India Company signed a treaty with the Nayaka ruler to acquire three square kilometres of land on a beach overlooking the Bay of Bengal in 1636, Madras was born. Today, Chennai is one of the four modern megalopolises of India with a melting pot of cultures. One of the fine examples of colonial buildings that you can visit in Chennai is the Central Railway Station. Gothic and Romanesque styles of architecture come together under one roof in a grand edifice with a big clock tower and brick red façade. Another impressive structure is the Town Hall built in the Romanesque style to honour Queen Victoria’s golden jubilee. The Trevelyan Fountain, resembling an English fortress is now the administrative headquarters for the legislative assembly of the state of Tamil Nadu. The Fort St George, with the oldest Anglican Church in India, famously known as the ‘Westminster Abbey of the East’ also houses the Fort Museum of colonial-era memorabilia. Thank you for a wonderful trip to Kerala. We loved the village life walk and Fort Cochin walk. The backwater cruise in a traditional country boat was an incredible experience. As a solo traveller, I felt safe and was exceptionally well taken care of. The cooking class in Jaipur was extremely enjoyable. Thanks for organising a great trip to Lucknow and Varanasi. The hotels at both the places were excellent; we had a great guide in Varanasi who went beyond the designated tour route and showed us around. The food tour in Lucknow was amazing and re-discovering the Awadhi Cuisine was a great experience – the kebabs were out of the world!
It was a terrific experience to spot the King of the jungle in all their glory at Gir. We had a very good experience overall.
