Situated in the neighbourhood of Kalasiguda in Secunderabad, the General Bazaar is a great place to connect with the local vibe. The market created back in the early 1800s still retains its lively buzz and frenetic action and is a popular hangout for shoppers and foodies. The area is also home to one of the most important temples of the city, Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Temple, devoted to Goddess Mahankali. Faith, fashion and food, you find it all here.
For a break from the history and mega sights of the city, spend a relaxing evening in this predominantly Hindu area of Secunderabad. Off the tourist radar, General Bazaar in Kalasiguda is a favoured destination to ‘shop like a local’. One can find many traditional gold and silver jewellery shops here, which belong to third-and-fourth generations of the family as well as wedding trousseau shops. Saree lovers can make a beeline for the ‘Zari’ and ‘Kanchi’ saree shops.
The area is known for the much-revered Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Temple, a Dravidian-styled temple with a legacy of 190-years. Believed to be one of the oldest temples in Andhra Pradesh, it is the abode of goddess Ujjain Mahankali. Her silver covered stone idol presides in a Padmasana posture with four hands holding sword, spear, 'damaru' and vessel of nectar. She is accompanied by the Manikyaladevi goddess.
Street stalls called ‘bandis’ do brisk business with hot jalebis, chaat, idli-dosa. Connoisseurs of authentic cuisine should not miss the chance for a meal at the institution-grade Paradise Restaurant, famed for mildly spiced biryani served with fiery 'mirchi ka salan'.

Thank you for a wonderful trip to Kerala. We loved the village life walk and Fort Cochin walk. The backwater cruise in a traditional country boat was an incredible experience. As a solo traveller, I felt safe and was exceptionally well taken care of. The cooking class in Jaipur was extremely enjoyable. The food, chef, and his wife were all exceptional and made for a lovely evening. Also, our expectations were definitely exceeded at a private residence, spending time with the elephants and lunching. Thanks for organising a great trip to Lucknow and Varanasi. The hotels at both the places were excellent; we had a great guide in Varanasi who went beyond the designated tour route and showed us around. The food tour in Lucknow was amazing and re-discovering the Awadhi Cuisine was a great experience – the kebabs were out of the world!
It was a terrific experience to spot the King of the jungle in all their glory at Gir. We had a very good experience overall.
