Active adventurers and trekking enthusiasts can take advantage of Udaipur’s hilly landscape with a trek in Kumbhalgarh. Located 80 kilometres from the city in the Rajsamand District, the town is the home of the World Heritage Site of Kumbhalgarh Fort. Its 36-kilometer long wall, the second largest wall in the world, is an architectural marvel to behold, even from a distance. The Kumbhalgarh wildlife sanctuary surrounding the fort is rich with animal and birds species, including the predatory leopard. Conquer the terrain in an exciting trek that covers heritage and wildlife in equal measures.
Set off on the day tour early in the morning with an invigorating downhill trek from Kumbalgarh, crossing the thick forest cover of the Kumbhalgarh wildlife sanctuary. The area is known for a wide variety of native animal species like deer, antelopes, wild boars, hogs and even leopard. Bird lovers can look forward to spotting many colourful and chirpy winged species.
En route, you will see the ancient cave temple of Parsuram Mahadev, located at the border of Pali and Rajsamand districts. Devotees walk 1.5 kilometres down a rough path to reach this ‘second Amarnath Temple of India’, which is revered for the natural rock figures of Lord Ganesh and Lord Shiva and has nine perennial ponds.
The trek continues to the 15th-century Ranakpur Jain Temple, one of the largest and most important Jain temple complexes in the country. Covering a gigantic area of nearly 48,000 square feet area, it features 29 halls, 80 domes and 1444 marble pillars, each sculpted exquisitely. Poetry in piety, music in marble…you are likely to conclude. Soak in divinity and follow it up with a delicious Jain meal within the temple complex.

As a solo traveller, I felt safe and was exceptionally well taken care of. The cooking class in Jaipur was extremely enjoyable. Thanks for organising a great trip to Lucknow and Varanasi. The hotels at both the places were excellent; we had a great guide in Varanasi who went beyond the designated tour route and showed us around. The food tour in Lucknow was amazing and re-discovering the Awadhi Cuisine was a great experience – the kebabs were out of the world!
It was a terrific experience to spot the King of the jungle in all their glory at Gir. We had a very good experience overall.
