Jodhpur is synonymous with the lavish lifestyles of the Marwar imperials, where the flamboyance of court coronations, an extravaganza of ceremonial trumpets and a grandiose collection of heirlooms were everyday affairs. Prep for a deep dive into the royal culture of the city with a visit to a local unit that specializes in restoring vintage textiles and antique attire of aristocrats. Learn all about vintage textiles of the region and play the role of a spectator while gifted artisans deftly recreate precious specimens of Zardosi and Aari embroidery.
If you are a textile enthusiast, a heritage buff or a history nerd, consider this unusual tour to a local unit where vintage textiles and garments are restored to their former luxury. You will have the chance to observe the entire makeover process in action, from the fabric being fixed on the loom to embroidery, stitching and mending to prepare the final piece. The variety of outfits in the workshop ranges from wedding wear to carpets and bolsters.
The tour is an opportunity to get acquainted with the techniques of Zardozi (from Persian Zar+Dozi meaning gold+embroidery), the most opulent form of fabric embellishment. Understand the origins of the embroidery, which came to India during the 16th-century with the Mughals, and was crafted using real gold and silver thread on expensive silks, brocades and velvets. There will also be a talk on Royal Vintage Textiles to orient you to the fashion code of the Rajputana royals and aristocrats.

Thanks for organising a great trip to Lucknow and Varanasi. The hotels at both the places were excellent; we had a great guide in Varanasi who went beyond the designated tour route and showed us around. The food tour in Lucknow was amazing and re-discovering the Awadhi Cuisine was a great experience – the kebabs were out of the world!
