Open your eyes to another Jodhpur, away from the legacy of the royals, the aura of the architecture and the buzz of the craft markets. Enter the expanse of the desert and mingle with indigenous tribes for a unique perspective into the vibrant culture of rural Rajasthan. During your jeep safari into the rural hinterland, you will visit a potter's village, a shepherd's village and a weaver's village. The highlight is the opportunity to mingle with the eco-conscious Bishnoi community. En route, you are likely to spot birds, chinkaras and blackbucks.
Driving 45-minutes from Jodhpur, you will arrive at the Bishnoi villages in the middle of the desert, where water is so scarce that sand is used to clean utensils. Known as staunch worshippers and protectors of nature in all its forms, especially plant and animal life, the semi-nomadic Bishnois are a tightly knit community. They follow unique ritualistic traditions like praying to animals and deploy indigenous methods to preserve green trees. At Khejarli Village, home to Rajasthan’s oldest ecological tribe, you will dip into the history of India’s first green movement. Khejarli is the location of the famous act of tree-hugging, where 363 Bishnois sacrificed their lives trying to save trees.
In this eye-opening excursion, look forward to interacting with weaver, potter and shepherd families and understanding the historical, social and cultural backdrop of Rajasthan as it has been surviving for centuries in the heart of the rural hinterland. Witness a traditional opium ceremony where the host pours a small amount of mixture into a cupped hand and the guest licks it off the palm.
As part of the jeep safari, there is a scheduled stop at Guda Bishnoi Lake, known for a rich variety of migratory birds and rare animals, like blackbucks and chinkaras.

Thank you for a wonderful trip to Kerala. We loved the village life walk and Fort Cochin walk. The backwater cruise in a traditional country boat was an incredible experience. As a solo traveller, I felt safe and was exceptionally well taken care of. The cooking class in Jaipur was extremely enjoyable. Thanks for organising a great trip to Lucknow and Varanasi. The hotels at both the places were excellent; we had a great guide in Varanasi who went beyond the designated tour route and showed us around. The food tour in Lucknow was amazing and re-discovering the Awadhi Cuisine was a great experience – the kebabs were out of the world!
It was a terrific experience to spot the King of the jungle in all their glory at Gir. We had a very good experience overall.
