The capital of West Bengal has a vibrant culture with strong religious overtones and Kolkata’s many temples, pilgrimage sites, churches, mosques, and synagogues are renowned across the country. A temple-themed tour is one of the best ways to experience the soul of the City of Joy. The diverse places of worship also showcase fine craftsmanship through their architectural features and decorative elements. Spiritually minded or not, a trip to Kolkata is incomplete without including the most noteworthy temples, Belur Math and Dakshineshwar Temple.
The tour will take you to Belur Math, one of the important pilgrimage places in India, established in 1938 by Swami Vivekananda as a homage to his guru, Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa. The site has a large prayer hall with a huge statue of Ramakrishna, a lovely monastery and multiple temples dedicated to Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda and Swami Brahmananda. You will inevitably be drawn to the principle of universal faith, visible in the architectural design blending temple, church and mosque motifs.
The other religious landmark of Kolkata that you will discover on the tour is Dakshineshwar Temple. Standing on the Hooghly riverbank, it proclaims its position as one of the most revered places of worship in eastern India. Set amidst 25 acres of land, the temple is synonymous with the great philosopher Sri RamkrishnaParamhans. It is believed that this is the divine spot where Pramhans gained enlightenment and had a holy glance of Mother Kali. Dakshineswar Kali temple preserves a historic feel and remains a treasured pilgrimage spot for devotees wishing to imbibe the wisdom of one of the greatest saints of Bengal.

As a solo traveller, I felt safe and was exceptionally well taken care of. The cooking class in Jaipur was extremely enjoyable. Thanks for organising a great trip to Lucknow and Varanasi. The hotels at both the places were excellent; we had a great guide in Varanasi who went beyond the designated tour route and showed us around. The food tour in Lucknow was amazing and re-discovering the Awadhi Cuisine was a great experience – the kebabs were out of the world!
It was a terrific experience to spot the King of the jungle in all their glory at Gir. We had a very good experience overall.
