Discover the lanes of Chowk, one of Lucknow’s oldest neighbourhoods to feel the pulse of the city once nicknamed the Constantinople of the East.
Embark on an atmospheric heritage walk through the narrow lanes of Chowk, where time slows down and history lives on timelessly. Chowk is the oldest part of Lucknow, which pre-dates the more familiar Nawabi era. The medieval part of the city was once the route for south-bound travellers from Kanpur. Chowk is defined by two iconic gates at both ends, Gol Darwaza and Akbari Darwaza. The latter, as the name indicates, is standing tall since the reign of the Mughal Emperor, Akbar. In its heyday, Chowk was the centre of all activity in the medieval city. Aristocrats, moneylenders, traders, administrators, courtesans and connoisseurs of arts and crafts lived in the Chowk.
The walk is an opportunity to dive deep into the roots of Awadhi culture and learn about its many aspects, including Urdu poetry, which was born in the city and Dastangoi, the art of story-telling. Let your professional guide enthral you with trivia about Unani medicine system, calligraphy, LucknowGharana of North Indian classical music, Kathak dance form, Chikankari and Zardozi embroidery, all of which are inextricably linked with the legacy of Lucknow.

As a solo traveller, I felt safe and was exceptionally well taken care of. The cooking class in Jaipur was extremely enjoyable. Thanks for organising a great trip to Lucknow and Varanasi. The hotels at both the places were excellent; we had a great guide in Varanasi who went beyond the designated tour route and showed us around. The food tour in Lucknow was amazing and re-discovering the Awadhi Cuisine was a great experience – the kebabs were out of the world!
It was a terrific experience to spot the King of the jungle in all their glory at Gir. We had a very good experience overall.
