Mylapore, the cultural hub of Chennai, is steeped in history that is at least two millennia old. Named after Mayil Arparikkum Oor (Land where the peacock coos), the neighbourhood evokes fantastic imagery of myths and legends, faith and traditions. This walk in Mylapore is a treat for history buffs and culture vultures. Expect sensational stories about local life, Gods and demons, symbolisms and beliefs. Whether you choose to brush off or to believe, the memories of Mylapore will stay with you for a long time after this city walk.
Home of the famous Kapaleeswarar Temple and the lively Mada streets, Mylapore is the cultural heart of Chennai, and a recommended area to immerse in bygone charm. The Kapaleeswarar Temple is the nerve centre for most residents even today, as it used to be when it was built by the Pallava kings in the 6th and 7th-centuries. The temple houses the ancient statue of a peacock and Lingam, which remind of the ancient legend of Mylapore.
Narrow streets around the temple still seem trapped in a time-warp. While you stroll along with your guide, you will notice a mix of architectural styles spanning eras and styles. Old Hindu Agraharams, English-inspired bungalows, Art Deco buildings and homes with neo-classical features, stand shoulder to shoulder in a curious jumble.

Thank you for a wonderful trip to Kerala. We loved the village life walk and Fort Cochin walk. The backwater cruise in a traditional country boat was an incredible experience. As a solo traveller, I felt safe and was exceptionally well taken care of. The cooking class in Jaipur was extremely enjoyable. The food, chef, and his wife were all exceptional and made for a lovely evening. Also, our expectations were definitely exceeded at a private residence, spending time with the elephants and lunching. Thanks for organising a great trip to Lucknow and Varanasi. The hotels at both the places were excellent; we had a great guide in Varanasi who went beyond the designated tour route and showed us around. The food tour in Lucknow was amazing and re-discovering the Awadhi Cuisine was a great experience – the kebabs were out of the world!
It was a terrific experience to spot the King of the jungle in all their glory at Gir. We had a very good experience overall.
