TOUR ITINERARY

Mattancherry was the place to be during the days of the spice trade and continued to rule the roost as a spice and tea trading centre till the 20th century. The multi-cultural enclave still sports a bustling, noisy spice market, where fragrant of finest ginger, cloves, cardamom, turmeric, and pepper floats in the air as workers hustle about drying, sorting, and packing spices. Locals flock to Matancherry eateries in search of Erachi Choru (meat rice) and traditional seafood.

Iconic for its instaworthy and Kochi Muziris Bienalle, Fort Kochi has come a long way from a mundane fishing village in the Kingdom of Kochi in pre-colonial Kerala. The now cool neighbourhood has some very famous cafes including a few near the waterfront that serve up fusion dishes as effortlessly as freshly cooked catch. The savoury and sweet delicacies at Bazaar Road are coveted all over the city, as is the hot tea and chilled buffalo milk lassi from street-side stalls, making it an ideal stop for a food tour.

Accompanying a local food enthusiast, you will hop from one eatery to the other to test new tastes and develop an appetite for untried dishes. The culinary walk continues into a wide continuum, from an 80-year coffee roaster to a warehouse for wholesale spices and traditional natural medicines.
