Embark on an art-filled journey through the capital with a trained artist and educator to explore the diversity and evolution of Indian Art in the country over a century and a half. Take a crash course in classical, folk and contemporary art, get familiar with the work of some of the greatest Indian artists and study masterpieces displayed in fascinating museums.
Over its long imperial history, Delhi has been the stage for many powerful dynasties, which patronized arts, literature, poetry, music and theatre. As a vibrant and cosmopolitan capital of India, the city has a thriving art and culture scene and promotes the national heritage in its museums, galleries and art festivals. In this illuminating art-themed tour, artists and art lovers can learn about the schools and influences that have shaped art in the country over the last 150 years.
The National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), converted from the former residence of the princely ruler of Jaipur, showcases modern Indian art in all its myriad hues right from folk art and 19th-century miniatures to the contemporaries of the art world. Creations by Ravi Raj Varma, Abanindranath Tagore, Nandalal Bose and Amrita Sher-Gil are worth gloating about.
After this, continue to India Habitat Centre or Triveni Kala Sangam, both buildings designed by Joseph Stein. The exhibition spaces for painting, sculpture, photography and new media regularly host creations by upcoming and avant-garde artists.
Next on the agenda is India’s first open-air art museum in Lodhi Colony Art District, a project of the St+art India Foundation. Blank walls of uninspiring residential buildings have been transformed into colourful canvases narrating stories of climate change, women’s empowerment, folk tradition and pop culture. Indian and international artists keep adding to the vibrant ensemble of murals. Blend into the psychedelic colours and come up with your interpretations.

Thank you for a wonderful trip to Kerala. We loved the village life walk and Fort Cochin walk. The backwater cruise in a traditional country boat was an incredible experience. As a solo traveller, I felt safe and was exceptionally well taken care of. The cooking class in Jaipur was extremely enjoyable. The food, chef, and his wife were all exceptional and made for a lovely evening. Also, our expectations were definitely exceeded at a private residence, spending time with the elephants and lunching. Thanks for organising a great trip to Lucknow and Varanasi. The hotels at both the places were excellent; we had a great guide in Varanasi who went beyond the designated tour route and showed us around. The food tour in Lucknow was amazing and re-discovering the Awadhi Cuisine was a great experience – the kebabs were out of the world!
It was a terrific experience to spot the King of the jungle in all their glory at Gir. We had a very good experience overall.
