Energetic, effervescent and eclectic, the industrial capital of India, Mumbai, takes its name from its patron goddess Mumba Devi. But there is more to this high-octane city than the cliched boardrooms, Bollywood and Bhelpuri (street snack of puffed rice and spices). Take to the streets of Mumbai early at the crack of dawn to probe its multi-dimensional, enticing personality. Witness the start of a typical morning and everyday activities that set the ball rolling in the city that never sleeps.
The walking tour begins at sunrise in Sassoon Docks where Mumbai’s original residents, the Koli fishing community, burst into hectic action with the unloading of tonnes and tonnes of fish. Push comes to shove, handcarts roll and tubs of fish weave through the chaos and stench. The place is also famous for a unique auction of the famous Bombay Duck, the slimy, lizard-like fish that forms an integral part of Mumbai’s culinary tradition.
Next up, witness more frenzy as you stop to see thousands of vendors on the road, busy folding, sorting and stacking piles for the distribution of dailies in 7 different languages. The clockwork precision is striking.
Continue to the markets of the city to admire the flawless logistics of the food distribution. Flower sellers lure customers with marigolds, roses, garlands of twined jasmine, and much more. Canisters of milk, baskets of freshly baked bread, piles of vegetables and heaps of fruits make the markets a photographer’s delight. One of the most interesting pitstops along the way is the herb market across a popular bridge.
At the end of the walking tour, visit a cricket ground and learn about the game that unites the country as nothing else can.

Thank you for a wonderful trip to Kerala. We loved the village life walk and Fort Cochin walk. The backwater cruise in a traditional country boat was an incredible experience. As a solo traveller, I felt safe and was exceptionally well taken care of. The cooking class in Jaipur was extremely enjoyable. Thanks for organising a great trip to Lucknow and Varanasi. The hotels at both the places were excellent; we had a great guide in Varanasi who went beyond the designated tour route and showed us around. The food tour in Lucknow was amazing and re-discovering the Awadhi Cuisine was a great experience – the kebabs were out of the world!
It was a terrific experience to spot the King of the jungle in all their glory at Gir. We had a very good experience overall.
