In 1911, the British decided to build a new capital reflecting the might of their empire in India. Edwin Lutyens, the Edwardian architect who was assigned the monumental project, conceived a city comparable in stature to Washington and Paris. The plan outlined an area south of the Old City of Shahjahanabad, laid out with symmetrical tree-lined boulevards accommodating a commercial hub, governmental offices and a grand palace for the Viceroy. Explore Lutyens Delhi, now synonymous with exorbitant real estate, generous green spaces and the political machinery that runs the largest democracy on the planet.
The credit for the planned Garden City of New Delhi goes to Edwardian architect Edwin Lutyens (alongside Herbert Baker), whose game plan was to create a grand urban space to symbolize the might of the British Empire. Blending Neo-classical with elements from Mughal and Buddhist styles of architecture, he modelled a larger-than-life Viceroy’s House (now Rashtrapati Bhavan) and an imperial enclave set in leafy avenues.
The area is still the highlight of the city, with its symmetrical intersections, radial roads converging in hexagonal nodes, fountain-studded roundabouts and water channels. The wide avenues are lined with all-white bungalows for government officials, extravagant and vintage with their collonaded verandas and large gardens.
The tour will take you to all the landmarks of New Delhi, including the President’s House, Parliament House and India Gate, Rajpath, Janpath, Connaught Place (commercial hub) Gurudwara Bangla Saheb (Sikh temple), Birla Mandir (Hindu temple) and the National Museum. Return impressed.

Thank you for a wonderful trip to Kerala. We loved the village life walk and Fort Cochin walk. The backwater cruise in a traditional country boat was an incredible experience. As a solo traveller, I felt safe and was exceptionally well taken care of. The cooking class in Jaipur was extremely enjoyable. The food, chef, and his wife were all exceptional and made for a lovely evening. Also, our expectations were definitely exceeded at a private residence, spending time with the elephants and lunching. Thanks for organising a great trip to Lucknow and Varanasi. The hotels at both the places were excellent; we had a great guide in Varanasi who went beyond the designated tour route and showed us around. The food tour in Lucknow was amazing and re-discovering the Awadhi Cuisine was a great experience – the kebabs were out of the world!
It was a terrific experience to spot the King of the jungle in all their glory at Gir. We had a very good experience overall.
