Hampi is associated with the medieval history of the glorious Viajayanagara Empire. But mythology offers a different perspective. Legend says that the UNESCO World Heritage site and its surrounding villages were part of the mythical kingdom of Kishkinda, referenced in the epic Ramayana. This walking tour conducted by a local from the village community takes you to the locations associated with the episodes from Ramayana when Lord Rama arrives in Kishkinda searching for his abducted wife, Sita. Historians and scholars believe that the area in and around Hampi is ancient Kishkinda. The kingdom of the Vanaras monkey Gods is mentioned elaborately in the Hindu epic, Ramayana. Embark on a journey seeped in mythology around the Tungabhadra riverbanks as part of your exclusive holiday in India.
The backdrop of the story relates to the warring rulers of Kishkinda, brothers Vali and Sugreeva. You will begin your tour by climbing to the top of Matanga Hill, where Sugreeva took refuge in the hermitage of Sage Matanga. One of the locations is Sugreeva Cave, where Sugreeva hid the jewels that Sita dropped as a clue for her husband, Lord Rama.
You will visit the famous Kodanda Rama Temple to participate in a temple ritual and Malyavanta Hill and witness the Ram Bhajan (devotional hymns). Madhuvana (woodlands), Chintamani Ghats and Vali Gufa (cave of the King Vali) are other pitstops on the day tour. Across the river, you will also stop at Anegundi Town to see a lake where Rama and his brother Laxmana met their ardent devotee, Shabari. A shrine next to the lake even has the impressions of Lord Rama’s feet.

Thank you for a wonderful trip to Kerala. We loved the village life walk and Fort Cochin walk. The backwater cruise in a traditional country boat was an incredible experience. As a solo traveller, I felt safe and was exceptionally well taken care of. The cooking class in Jaipur was extremely enjoyable. Thanks for organising a great trip to Lucknow and Varanasi. The hotels at both the places were excellent; we had a great guide in Varanasi who went beyond the designated tour route and showed us around. The food tour in Lucknow was amazing and re-discovering the Awadhi Cuisine was a great experience – the kebabs were out of the world!
It was a terrific experience to spot the King of the jungle in all their glory at Gir. We had a very good experience overall.
