The pristine perfection of the Taj Mahal is a sight for sore eyes, a poetic inspiration for the romantic at heart, eye-candy for those obsessed with architecture and a classic legend for the history buff. A trip to the most well-recognized architectural icon of Agra (and India) is a convenient day trip from Delhi by road or by train. The UNESCO World Heritage site of Agra Fort doubles the heritage quotient.
By car: (4-5 hours from Delhi): An early start around 6:30 am is recommended to beat the traffic snarl. Accompanied by an expert guide, discover the timeless beauty of Taj Mahal, the all-white marble mausoleum built by Emperor Shahjahan for his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Drink in the splendour of its flawlessness, salute its architectural finesse and be moved by the story of a tragic romance. Carry on to the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Agra Fort, which served as the headquarters of the Mughal Empire when Agra was their capital. Wander through the grandiose complex and flashback to the era of court intrigues and concubine-filled harems. Drive back to Delhi after a leisurely lunch at Agra.
By train and car: After a hotel pickup at 5:30 a.m., reach the Delhi train station for an express train to Agra (2.30 hours approx). Enjoy breakfast on board before you arrive in the city of Agra for your full-day excursion. Explore the landmarks sites of Taj Mahal and Agra Fort with an expert guide. There is a choice of adding the monument of Itmad-ud-Daulah (mausoleum of Shahjahan’s father-in-law) to your agenda, known for its delicate and detailed marble inlay workmanship. You can shop for local souvenirs in the old city alleyways and bite into a slice of everyday life. Later, witness the ethereal soft glow of the Taj at sunset from the other side of the Yamuna River. Let it all sink in on the express train back to Delhi, which departs from Agra at 9:15 p.m.

Thank you for a wonderful trip to Kerala. We loved the village life walk and Fort Cochin walk. The backwater cruise in a traditional country boat was an incredible experience. As a solo traveller, I felt safe and was exceptionally well taken care of. The cooking class in Jaipur was extremely enjoyable. The food, chef, and his wife were all exceptional and made for a lovely evening. Also, our expectations were definitely exceeded at a private residence, spending time with the elephants and lunching. Thanks for organising a great trip to Lucknow and Varanasi. The hotels at both the places were excellent; we had a great guide in Varanasi who went beyond the designated tour route and showed us around. The food tour in Lucknow was amazing and re-discovering the Awadhi Cuisine was a great experience – the kebabs were out of the world!
It was a terrific experience to spot the King of the jungle in all their glory at Gir. We had a very good experience overall.
