A maze of cobbled streets, brightly painted villas, charming heritage structures and tiny chapels occupy a sliver of space between the Ourem Creek and the Altinho Hills at Panjim, Goa. Fontainhas or Latin Quarter, as it is called, is a faint echo of Europe, best explored on foot. This immersive walking tour takes you beyond the popular sites for a more intimate peek into the UNESCO Heritage Zone, which has Azelujo signboards and even a street named 31st January, the day that Portugal attained freedom from Spanish reign.
Start at the Tobacco Square and the Tobacco Exchange which now houses the Post Office. Feel the nostalgia of old times by buying personalized stamps and writing a postcard to friends and family. At Casa Moeda (Mint House), learn how General M.C. Dias won the favour of the regime and pay a visit to his home for the honour of high tea with the family.
The walk continues along the ancient entry road to Panjim on the riverside bank to the Adil Shah Palace, where you can hear the story of a secret tunnel. Next up is the Jardim de Garcia de Orta, associated with a famous botanist. End up at the Immaculate Conception Church, a splendid structure housing the second largest belfry in India which boasts epic views from the top.
A stop at Cafe Morango is on the cards to sample Goan snacks and interact with the owners, whose family has been living for generations in the area. The tingling of tastebuds continues with Feni at Joseph Bar, served by the award-winning barman, Gundu.
Stroll along the atmospheric streets, yielding to the temptation of picking up bric-a-brac and mementoes. An Azuleijo souvenir is almost obligatory. A treat awaits art aficionados at the Fundacao Oriente Museum. Pore over the impressive art collection by Goan portraitist, Antonio Xavier Trinidade, aptly referred to as the Rembrandt of the East.

Thank you for a wonderful trip to Kerala. We loved the village life walk and Fort Cochin walk. The backwater cruise in a traditional country boat was an incredible experience. As a solo traveller, I felt safe and was exceptionally well taken care of. The cooking class in Jaipur was extremely enjoyable. The food, chef, and his wife were all exceptional and made for a lovely evening. Also, our expectations were definitely exceeded at a private residence, spending time with the elephants and lunching. Thanks for organising a great trip to Lucknow and Varanasi. The hotels at both the places were excellent; we had a great guide in Varanasi who went beyond the designated tour route and showed us around. The food tour in Lucknow was amazing and re-discovering the Awadhi Cuisine was a great experience – the kebabs were out of the world!
It was a terrific experience to spot the King of the jungle in all their glory at Gir. We had a very good experience overall.
