Aside from a wide variety of birds, mammals and reptiles, Bhitarkanika is a coveted destination for the dreaded saltwater crocodile.
Tagged as the mini Amazon of India, Bhitarkanika National Park is fast turning into a much sought after destination for nature lovers and adventure junkies. India’s second-largest network of mangroves sets new standards for unspoilt wilderness with its combination of natural features like sea, sand, mud, creeks and wildlife. Fed by the rivers of Brahmani, Baitarani and Dhamara, the National Park is lush with forestry and water bodies, an ideal ecological system for birds, animals and reptiles. Over 269 species of birds have a home here, including 98 species of migratory waterbirds. But the star attraction of the vast tract of forest and swamp is the endangered saltwater crocodile, including the unique albino species. The crocodile population in Bhitarkanika is believed to be over 1500.
The wildlife safari of the sanctuary will include a boat ride and a nature trek, during which you will travel through many creeks to spot the giant reptiles basking in the sun. Scheduled stops include the Bagagahana watchtower and Sikarakothi, the hunting tower of the ancient king. Stock up on facts and figures at the crocodile breeding centre & museum at Dangamal.

As a solo traveller, I felt safe and was exceptionally well taken care of. The cooking class in Jaipur was extremely enjoyable. Thanks for organising a great trip to Lucknow and Varanasi. The hotels at both the places were excellent; we had a great guide in Varanasi who went beyond the designated tour route and showed us around. The food tour in Lucknow was amazing and re-discovering the Awadhi Cuisine was a great experience – the kebabs were out of the world!
It was a terrific experience to spot the King of the jungle in all their glory at Gir. We had a very good experience overall.
